Names of Kingsburg
Kingsburg started out as a flag stop on the Central Pacific Railroad called Kings River Switch.
In 1874 Kingsburg was called Wheatville and had a post office, later that year they changed the name to Kingsbury.
During this time period Josiah Draper and Andrew Farley each owned a quarter section, about 160 acres, Draper on the east side of the railroad tracks and Farley on the west side of the tracks. So it was suggested that the east side be called Drapersville and the west side called Farleyville.
Two years after that it became Kingsburgh and it January 1894 it finally became Kingsburg.

Large Art in Small Places
This mural tells about the Making of Kingsburg and is on the corner of Draper and Smith. It was created by a high school art theacher and her students. Much of the art in Kingsburg is in the book Lage Art in Small Places. Kingsburg is not the only city with murals in the San Joaquin Valley.

- The Selma EnterpriseSelma is only six miles away from Kingsburg. Selma is the raisin capital of the world because of the Sun-Maid company which has been in business since 1912. It is a huge cooperative that is owned by family farmers. In the late summer workers harvest the grapes and lay them out on paper in the vineyards to dry naturally in the sun.
- The Hanford Sentinel The Hanford Sentinel is owned by Lee Enterprises in Davenport, Iowa and is the parent newspaper for this part of the San Joaquin Valley.
- Lemoore NewsEven though Lemoore has a Naval Air Station, an Indian Casino called Tachi Palace, and twice the population of Kingsburg, it does not have its own newspaper. The news is presented as part of the Hanford Sentinel.
